I did not start over. I gathered what I already knew.
Before I wrote code, I worked in insurance risk control and safety management. My job was to walk into an organization, notice what other people might miss, and help turn complex risk into practical decisions.
Moving into web development looked like a career change from the outside. It felt more like a remix. The questions stayed with me: How do people move through a system? Where do they get stuck? What would make the experience work better?
Soapmaking gave those ideas a physical form. Separate materials become something useful through a deliberate process. Our careers work that way, too. Experiences that once seemed unrelated can become the exact skills we need next.

Meaningful participation does not require everyone to participate the same way.
I pay attention to more than whether participants successfully make soap. I notice who starts talking, who prefers a quieter exchange, and who becomes absorbed in the process.
Soap gives the group a shared task. Story gives the experience meaning. Sharing remains optional.
