Wow! I got a chance to attend the Parent Symposium at the Texas Alliance for Black School Educators (TABSE) conference last Friday. Here are some of my takeaways from this insightful event:

✏️Reading is the foundation: One key piece of advice from the panel for new parents was simple yet profound: Read to my children. Literacy is the backbone of all learning and is critical from ages 0-5.

✏️Strength-based learning: Instead of forcing children to fit into a mold, supporting their natural strengths empowers them. Identifying how my kids learn will help them thrive.

✏️Opportunities and impact: I discovered that as a parent, I can have a direct impact not only on my child’s education but also on the wider school community. It’s empowering to be an advocate, and it creates a ripple effect that benefits many students.

It really does take a village! Thank you #TABSE2024 for the inspiring event!
