In 2014, I had just returned from Ghana, West Africa after my grandmother passed away.
I flew back to Houston, drove cross-country, started a new job in Portland, and immediately flew to orientation in Chicago, exhausted and determined to keep up.
My final assignment that week was researching AND presenting on general liability and worker’s compensation claim potential in artisanal soapmaking operations. So I did.
Before that moment, I never thought twice about soap.
And then it happened:
While researching, I watched a video of a woman making soap from her kitchen.
Something inside me stirred.
I felt this call to create something beautiful from ordinary ingredients.
I didn’t know it then, but that work assignment cracked open a new path for me.
Soapmaking became my flow.
Then a passion.
Then a workshop.
Then a business.
Now, it’s a framework I teach for career storytelling and team-building.
✨What would you make if you felt free?
FYI: This pic is from my notebook from that week! It’s the outline of my very first soap making presentation I had about 20-ish minutes to prepare. Looking back, this was actually great practice!
