I volunteered today at the @blackcandlemakersclub
Black Candle Makers Club convention. As people walked up to shop at Jewelz’ booth, I asked “What are you looking forward to?”
4 out of 5 people answered the same way: “Meeting other candle makers!”
It stopped me for a moment because it reminded me of my own journey.
Back in 2019, I attended the Grace Hopper Celebration. The session were great but meeting other women developers was priceless. I only ever worked with men up until that point. Meeting women who were students (that could learn from me) and others in senior leadership (whom I definitely learned a lot from) showed me what my future could look like.
Iron sharpens iron. Being around women who are not only doing the work but often facing odds greater than your own is exactly what you need to unlock the blocks in your mind. That is the power of showing up, in person, in community.
