I feel 0 guilt.

I rested for the full week after the soap making conference.

And I did not make soap last week.

I popped back up yesterday and decided to partially make up for that week by making 2 soaps at once. The first soap I made was what I call and avocado dream bar scented with green tea and vanilla. It has avocado butter, avocado oil, and – get this – fresh avocado and I also included coconut milk powder in the soap. I’ve always wanted to include coconut milk powder and soap and let me tell you. This is one creamy super dreamy bar of. So I can’t wait to use it. It lathers beautifully. It smells good and I can’t wait to keep on using fresh stuff.

You might be wondering, why avocado? What inspired this soap?

eeing the avocado in the fridge and not wanting to see it rot.

I sliced the avocado and I literally had my fingers crossed.

Hoping that the inside of it was not all brown.

By the grace of God, it wasn’t, but it was certainly on its way from being slightly over ripe to, you know, trash can.

In my last job, I worked in climate-tech. And I had the chance to be around the kind of people that care a lot about climate. I never think about climate in that turn of phrase – I’d always say “the environment”.

But, you know, this is how the Californians I worked with talk and now I talk like this too haha. So I’m here in this climate tech kind of world. And I learned a lot about CO2 emissions and a lot about what happens when carbon is building up in landfills. From fresh produce that absolutely could be used and created into something is just thrown away and left to rot. It produces lots and lots of CO2 that impacts our atmosphere and our communities. And so I felt that it was so necessary. That rather than just write emails, watch materials die or thrown things away – I could turn some of it into soap.

Only try this with a hot process. Or cold process recipe. The pH of the soap will protect you from dealing with any mold or bacteria growth. This is because the pH of fresh soap is just way too high to sustain bacteria and mold.

And of course, if you want to learn how to make this soap with me in particular, just go ahead and fill out the application for my Simple Soapmaking for Sensitive Skin workshop. I’m gonna teach you how to make this recipe as well as 3 others of your choice. I will help you get the bones of great recipe together so that you make a bar of soap that has the effects that you want it to have.
